The biggest challenge in cosmetic surgery is to reverse the signs of aging in the face and neck. Facial aging is a complex process that occurs at three different physical levels. The most superficial and visible level is the skin. The main cause of skin damage is overexposure to harmful sun rays. The second physical level of facial aging is just below the skin in the connective tissue and fascia. These stretch and sag under the force of gravity producing jowls and a "turkey gobbler" neck. The third and deepest level at which facial aging occurs is the loss of muscle and bone volume. As we age, contoured cheeks that were rounded in youth become flattened or even sunken. With increased aging, the chin recedes and the lips become thinner. Facial rejuvenation involves cosmetic procedures to restore youthfulness at all these three levels (skin, fascia, and muscle); however, because aging occurs independently at each level, we may expect the greatest improvement from a rejuvenation procedure that we need the most.
Contemporary Approach to Facial Rejuvenation
A face lift involving plastic surgery consists of removing excess skin and fat, then pulling damaged and aged skin tight. Now after a drastic surgery, you have tight, old looking skin, giving you a skeletonized look that hardly resembles the younger you. At Nu Vela, we believe in the new approach to looking younger. The new approach, which is non-surgical and minimally invasive, involves rejuvenating damaged skin, tightening the skin, removing fat from the jowls and under-chin, and restoring facial volume. The result is a natural looking and more youthful face without the pain and the hassle involved in plastic surgery.

Conditions that can be Corrected or Treated at Nu Vela
Nu Vela uses the most advanced cosmetic lasers and injectables to correct or treat the following conditions:
- Dynamic wrinkles: These wrinkles develop because each time we smile, laugh, or frown, our skin creases or folds in the same way. When we are young our skin springs back to its original position when we finish making the facial expression and the skin resumes its original texture. As as we get older, the dynamic wrinkles remain on the skin even in the absence of any expression, because our skin "remembers" these creases and wrinkles and static wrinkles start to form.
- Static wrinkles: These wrinkles which are visible at all times, even in the absence of any facial expression, may be fine or pronounced. They develop as a result of aging and sun damage and are associated with either denaturing of natural skin substances found in the dermis, such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, or due to a decrease in their amount. As the dermis becomes less resilient and stiffer, the skin is less able to spring back to its initial position after a facial expression, and as a result, static wrinkles and folds form.
UNDER-EYE WRINKLES TREATED BY BOTOX INJECTIONS

- Hyper pigmentation: May be referred to by a number of names, including brown spots, melasma, age spots, "liver spots", sun spots, sun freckles, and pregnancy mask. Hyperpigmentation is a common, usually harmless skin condition in which some patches or spots become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. Occsionally, hyperpigmentation can be the symptom of some severe disease, such as scleroderma, which may require prompt professional medical investigation. The common hyperpigmentation occurs when pigment cells overproduce melanin on a permanent basis, even when the surrounding skin is not tanned.
SUN AND AGE SPOTS TREATED BY IPL PHOTOREJUVENATION

- Acne: A common inflammatory skin disease characterized by whiteheads, blackheads, and inflamed red pimples. Mainly appears on the face and shoulders, but may also occur on the trunk, arms, and legs. Acne is caused by an interaction between hormones, bacteria and sebum produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin. Acne is traditionally thought to develop at puberty but many women have acne throughout life or it may even develop in adulthood.

- Scars: While many people recover from acne without any permanent effects, some are left with disfiguring acne scars. A scar may also form as a result of other injury to the skin. Scars may be rolling (a wavy appearance to the skin), pitted, discolored, or have raised borders. Picking at scabs and pulling them off are the main causes for the formation of scars. Scabs form to protect the healing process that is going on underneath a wound. Pulling a scab off before it is ready interferes with the bodys natural healing and remodeling process and may result in permanent scar formation.

- Rosacea: Rosacea is an inflammatory condition characterized by episodic flushing of the facial skin, often lasting for several hours. Although people of any age may develop rosacea, there are two peak incidences of the condition, one in the 20s and one in the 50s. If left untreated, Rosacea tends to worsen over time. As the condition progresses, the redness becomes more persistent, and may result in bumps, pimples and visible dilated blood vessels. Rosacea is worsened with sunlight and certain foods.
- Couperose: Also called telangiectasis, erythrosis is mostly prevalent in Caucasian and lightly pigmented skins. The condition is characterized by the visible presence of capillaries, bright red in color, winding delicately through the tissues around the nose, on the chin and the cheeks. Frequently, diffuse redness precedes the appearance of couperose and gives a constant flushed appearance to the cheeks and nose. Genetic disposition, UV exposure, and temperature extremes are believed to be the most prevalent causes for the appearance of couprose. Generally, there is not an increase in skin temperature with couperose and there are no alterations in the tissue structure or biochemistry as seen in other disorders like rosacea.
- Spider veins and reticular veins: Facial spider veins usually appear around the nose and cheeks and are reminiscent of a spider's web in shape. Reticular veins, on the other hand, are usually found along the cheekbones, under the eyes, and around the temples. They have a greenish blue tint and are larger than spider veins, often 2-3 mm in diameter. Despite the fact that these veins carry blood, they are not part of the venous valve system. Accordingly, they can be removed without causing any harm to the patient.

- Jowls and double chin: Humans develop fat deposits in specific, characteristic sites. As people gain weight existing fat cells become larger. Excessive fat deposits in the neck can result in a "double chin". Increased prominence of fat in the jowls and neck is a common manifestation of aging and putting on weight.

- Skin laxity and Looseness: Weakening of the supportive skin structure (collagen and elastin fibers) results in the loss of skin firmness causing most anatomic features to droop. When facial skin becomes redundant, the excess skin accentuates the depth and severity of wrinkles and the jowls drop below the jaw line. Smoking, gravity, and sun damage are believed to be the major contributors to skin laxity.
